How Farm-Raised Kids Have Better Health than Kids in Sterolized City Surroundings

This incredibly interesting topic will seem obvious to some, and crazy to others. But a recent study showed that kids who play in the dirt, spend time with animals, and get plenty of outside time tend to have better stress-resilient immune systems than their pet-free, city-dwelling counterparts. They also may have a lower risk for mental illnesses. This is all according to a new study that just dropped.
Of course, we’ve long since known that spending time outside will typically do more good than bad, and that pets can reduce stress levels and even help with anxiety, but this study has gone even further, proving just how much such simple things can impact us in the long run.
Christopher Lowry, a co-author of the study and CU Boulder integrative physiology professor, said that this wasn’t very surprising to him. He was quoted as saying that there has been plenty of documentation that exposure to both rural environments and pets during development can help lower one’s risk of allergies and asthma later in life. He said that this isn’t as big of an important find to overall health as it is to mental health.
This can be a great step in helping to not just “treat”, but potentially prevent these types of problems. Of course, no one is saying that this is 100% a cure, but that it can help and that there are significant differences between those who were exposed to bacterias, allergens, and nature and those who were not.
The thought behind this isn’t new, especially to those in the holistic and natural health communities. If you live in a sterilized place, you won’t get the exposure necessary to build up an immunity to it, leading to more complications and fewer immunities later in life.
The authors of the study have suggested probably the most awesome holistic health preventative measures on the planet: eat good food (high in healthy bacteria) and probiotics, make a furry friend, and spending time outside, in nature. This definitely sounds not just doable, but enjoyable. So what do you think? Will you be running out to buy a furry friend for the family? How about letting your little ones roll around in the grass?

How to Get Ripped

Many Americans want to lose some pounds for the upcoming summer. However, some of them really don’t know how to effectively do it. A lot of Americans have created many fitness misconceptions that have resulted in poor results. The good news is that losing weight is relatively easy and simple. However, one must maintain the discipline to fulfill their goal of losing weight. This is the tricky part. In this article, I’m going to be breaking down just how easy it is to lose weight. Let’s get started!

1. Caloric deficit
Through evolution, our body had to hold on to every bit of energy in order to survive. Fortunately, we are not in primitive times anymore. In order to lose fat, you must be in a caloric deficit. In other words, you must be consuming less calories per day than what your body is burning per day. To find out the amount of calories you should consume daily, I’d recommend going to an online calorie calculator. These calculators are fairly accurate and are a great first step on your weight loss journey. As you consume a fixed amount of calories every day, make sure that you are tracking your progress. When you wake up in the morning, go straight to the scale to measure your weight. At the end of the week, average those seven weights and that will be your most accurate weight for the week. Repeat that process the following week. Your goal should be to lose 1-2 lbs per week.

2. Exercise
Like they say, exercise is the best medicine. For losing weight, focus on high intensity cardio exercises like jump rope, burpees, sprints, and tuck jumps. These will burn the most calories while preserving the most muscle. Then again, you don’t want to get to the end of your weight loss journey with only skin and bones left.

Is It a Good Idea to Take a Natural Approach to Your Health?

You have probably seen a wide array of articles and posts on the internet that have stated more people are going with a holistic approach to healthcare than ever before. Holistic medicine involves natural healing techniques to better align the body and get yourself back to a feeling of well-being and vibrancy. In a world that is literally governed by modern medicine, doctors and hospitals, it’s often looked-down on to take a natural approach to your health. There have been people who swear by holistic medicine to cure just about any ailment, from something as simple as toenail fungus to something as major as cancer.

It is important to remember that your health is incredibly fragile and that you should never attempt to handle it yourself without a doctor’s approval. In some cases, you can do more damage than good if you don’t follow doctor’s orders. However, if you feel that medicine isn’t working for your issues or that your doctor isn’t hearing your wishes when it comes to your health, holistic medicine is a wonderful approach to consider. In fact, there are a multitude of natural wellness and holistic doctors available who don’t necessarily go the traditional route when it comes to healing their patients.

It is a smarter idea to visit a holistic doctor for your ailments than it is to do your own research on the internet and come to your own conclusions. The reason for this is because so many people have a problem with misdiagnosing themselves, which prevents them from getting the care that they so desperately need. A holistic doctor will not only be able to properly diagnose your ailment, but they can prescribe a variety of natural elements to heal you without the use of traditional medicine. This might involve a change to your diet, vitamin supplementation or even herbal remedies that you’ve never tried in the past because they are often shunned when visiting a regular doctor’s office.

Why Are More People Taking a Holistic Approach to Their Health?

Modern medicine has come a long way, and it isn’t horribly uncommon to go to the doctor’s office with an ailment and be prescribed a pill the very same day. While most modern medicine has been the savior for many individuals, it also comes with a load of side effects and problems. In fact, many patients have found that the side effects for a specific treatment or pill were worse than the ailment itself. Because of this, a lot of people are taking a more holistic and natural approach to their healthcare.

Diet changes, exercise implementation and herbal supplements are key when taking a natural approach to healing and preventative healthcare. Many body and mental ailments are caused by deficiencies in certain vitamins, so patients are realizing the need for proper nutrition along with visiting their regular doctor. If you feel that it is time to take a natural approach to your health, there are a few things you need to understand. The first is that you still need to follow doctor’s orders. For example, if you’re on a cholesterol-lowering medication, going off of it and trying your own thing could be more dangerous than you think.

If you feel that your doctor isn’t hearing your wishes and isn’t understanding your need for a more natural approach, you should consider switching healthcare providers and going to see a holistic doctor. Holistic doctors are trained professionals who have still gone to medical school, but they are more apt to take a natural approach when it comes to their patients’ health. There aren’t as many holistic doctors readily available as are regular physicians, but they can still be found locally by doing a quick and effortless search online. Keep in mind that most insurance providers do not cover the costs of holistic healthcare, so you may wind up shelling out all of the money yourself just to get the care that you need. However, this has been a beneficial switch for many who are struggling to obtain better health.

Ayurveda Holds Secrets to Wellness

It seems there is always a new medication on the market to alleviate some of the mental and physical illnesses that are so prevalent in our society. However, a more holistic approach, inspired by Eastern medicine, could be part of the solution for living a more balanced and healthy life.

Ayurveda is a practice that has been around for centuries, and is quite common in Indian medicine. Ayurveda focuses on determine why and how the body became out of balance, so that people concentrate on reestablishing this balance to get rid of pain and sickness.

The practice of Ayurveda supports the notion that everyone is independent in terms of their physical needs. Each individual has a combination of a body type or dosha that was “assigned” to him/her at the time of conception. Although there are times when two people will have similar symptoms because of their doshas, the remedies for each person could be vastly different. This is because these individual’s may be experiencing imbalance for a number of reasons, including exposure to toxic chemicals, poor digestion, lack of restful sleep, and or changes in stress levels and hormones. Changes in the seasons can also cause imbalance in the body.

The purpose of Ayurveda is always to bring the body back to a state of homeostasis, or the natural state of balance. The treatment to achieve homeostasis can include using natural oils, herbal supplements and even dietary adjustments or changes.

Eating the right foods for a person’s body type is also a part of Ayurvedic medicine. The right foods can pacify a person’s dosha, and the diet should also be paired with physical activity like yoga and pranayama to increase strength and flexibility. The dharma is also an important part of Ayurveda. Dharma is the passion or life’s mission of a person, and practicing the dharma can promote love, peace and tranquility in an individual’s life.

It’s important to know that while not all types of integrative or alternative therapies will work for everyone, there are a number of benefits to practicing Ayurveda. This way of life promotes balance in the mind, spirit and body, which could encourage people to find the workout routines, diet plans and relationships that are best for them.

New Studies Indicate that Coffee and Tea May Reduce Cancer Risk

A new holistic health study recently revealed that coffee and tea could be used as a holistic treatment for the prevention of liver disease and cancer. Degenerative liver disease represents more than a quarter of the cancer cases in the United States. The conditions kills over a million people annually across the globe. Although there have always been health benefits associated with the consumption of coffee and herbal teas, this is the first time that scientific evidence has proved that these drinks could have a beneficial effect on patients who present with symptoms suggesting that they could develop liver disease in the future.

Benefits of Coffee
Coffee has been used throughout the history of the world as an herbal medicine. Developed from the cocoa bean found primarily in the souther hemisphere, coffee contains powerful antioxidants, natural pain relievers, and chemicals that help to reduce memory loss. The modern use of coffee as a stimulant is simply an added bonus of consuming this healthy liquid. The antioxidant-rich coffee bean can be consumed orally or inserted into the body with an enema kit to gain health benefits from it. Studies suggest that the daily consumption of at least once cup of coffee per day can prevent both liver and colon diseases from forming.

Benefits of Tea
Herbal tea has also been long heralded as a beneficial holistic healing aid. Almost every herb and some spices can be used as teas. All edible herbs have benefits to the human body, but spearmint, peppermint, and chamomile tea are especially beneficial to those suffering from liver disease. By consuming the tea made with these herbs, humans can ease the discomfort associated with liver disease and, ultimately, eliminate slow progressing liver pain.

Although the evidence that suggests that herbal tea and coffee can help to prevent cancers and disease is fairly new, the general health benefits of these holistic concoctions can hardly be disputed. In addition to their provision of several key nutrients, coffee and tea provide a tasty and relaxing beverage experience for all to enjoy!

Strawberries: Endangered Tortoises Want Them and So Should You

In today’s world, there are a lot of foods that you can eat, and unfortunately, the vast majority of those foods are not really what would be considered “healthy” or good for living a holistic, healthy lifestyle all around.

Fortunately, however, we have animals to be our guides in terms of what is good for us and what is not. Don’t believe it? Just consider the fact that ants are known to go around and bypass artificial sugars. And, if that’s not enough for you, consider the cute video recently broadcast by Buzzfeed.

In the video, you will find an absolutely adorable little endangered tortoise reaching desperately to nibble at a strawberry- a simple, sweet, all natural strawberry, which, you guessed it, is good for holistic health!

The health benefits of strawberries, as the tortoise in the video seems to know, are great. To start off with, they’re a killer addition to your plate if you’re trying to lose extra weight, particularly around your midsection. Strawberries contain something known as anthocyanins, which can help the body to burn stored fat, enabling eaters to look and feel their very best!

They are also known for promoting positive eye health. In fact, some studies reveal that eating a serving or more of strawberries per day can actually lower your risk of vision loss and/or macular degeneration. So, move over carrots (which are also eye-friendly), strawberries are just as good (and even sweeter!) at promoting eye health.

These are just a few of many benefits of strawberries, which is why they are definitely worth adding to your diet, just like the cute little tortoise in the even cuter video tried to do!
