Mike Baur Launches A Beer Hack Event With Feldschlösschen Brewery

Who says you can’t mix a little business with pleasure? Certainly not Mike Baur who is always busy making a lot of ideas come to life as executive chairman of the Swiss Startup Factory (SSUF) but who can turn those businesses into something fun like he did at a recent beer hack. The hack was coordinated between Feldschlösschen Brewery and the SSUF with the the intention of making beer sales and marketing digitized and more readily accessible to customers. So attendees of the SSUF along with Baur were given a run of the brewery, a taste of its beer and then were taken to a nearby bar where they were given space to put their inspiration to work in coding and business planning. The ideas that came out of this event were remarkable, but one winner that came away was a take on the Uber app but renamed “U-BEER” since it featured beer delivery.

Mike Baur’s story of founding the SSUF is about how he left a steady executive banking job to go into the unpredictable field of business startup investing. He was 16 when he first decided to go into banking, and he enrolled as an intern at UBS, a high-ranking bank in Switzerland in the years before the recession. His higher education was completed at the University of Bern and Rochester University, and as he moved from intern to accounts manager, he received a lot of praise from his superiors. He gave great advice to some of the wealthiest patrons of UBS, and eventually he was given an even more lucrative contract at the commercial bank Clariden Leu. But then the recession happened and the world of banking Baur once knew began to change. Everything now seemed to have red tape, and he felt he no longer wanted to do the same old routine he always did.

Mike Baur left the bank offices and told his former colleagues he was going to make it in the venture capital niche and new business owners would soon have better access to capital. Most of those old colleagues thought his plans were unnecessary because the Swiss government already had some grant programs for small businesses, but Baur sold several people on the idea including his current partner Max Meister and the owners of Red Bull Media and Goldback Group. Several universities were also interested in the SSUF idea, and in its inaugural year the enrollment was outstanding. The SSUF has since put out hundreds of new business ideas and has big plans for future batches of attendees.

How Farm-Raised Kids Have Better Health than Kids in Sterolized City Surroundings

This incredibly interesting topic will seem obvious to some, and crazy to others. But a recent study showed that kids who play in the dirt, spend time with animals, and get plenty of outside time tend to have better stress-resilient immune systems than their pet-free, city-dwelling counterparts. They also may have a lower risk for mental illnesses. This is all according to a new study that just dropped.
Of course, we’ve long since known that spending time outside will typically do more good than bad, and that pets can reduce stress levels and even help with anxiety, but this study has gone even further, proving just how much such simple things can impact us in the long run.
Christopher Lowry, a co-author of the study and CU Boulder integrative physiology professor, said that this wasn’t very surprising to him. He was quoted as saying that there has been plenty of documentation that exposure to both rural environments and pets during development can help lower one’s risk of allergies and asthma later in life. He said that this isn’t as big of an important find to overall health as it is to mental health.
This can be a great step in helping to not just “treat”, but potentially prevent these types of problems. Of course, no one is saying that this is 100% a cure, but that it can help and that there are significant differences between those who were exposed to bacterias, allergens, and nature and those who were not.
The thought behind this isn’t new, especially to those in the holistic and natural health communities. If you live in a sterilized place, you won’t get the exposure necessary to build up an immunity to it, leading to more complications and fewer immunities later in life.
The authors of the study have suggested probably the most awesome holistic health preventative measures on the planet: eat good food (high in healthy bacteria) and probiotics, make a furry friend, and spending time outside, in nature. This definitely sounds not just doable, but enjoyable. So what do you think? Will you be running out to buy a furry friend for the family? How about letting your little ones roll around in the grass?

Testing Saunas For Stroke Prevention

The regular use of saunas invokes higher healing properties, this according to a study performed by UK research fellow at the University of Bristol, Setor Kunutsor. Now transfer this study to holistic and eastern medicine, which has long since regarded saunas as a method to release body toxins through sweat. In this particular study, research participants were asked to take a sauna four to seven times weekly. The surprising result was that people who followed this decreased their probability of having a stroke by 60%; as compared to those who only used a sauna once a week.

This is just another reason to engage in an end of workout sauna sessions. Holistic and eastern medicine differs from Western medicine in that one is consider a way to achieve and maintain optimal health and the other is a curative with medication. The participants in the Kunutsor’s research study, all lived in Finland, a country where saunas are a part of holistic living everyday. Most people have in-home saunas there and use them daily as a lifestyle factor. To complete the study’s inquiries, the 1,628 participants were montoried for a period of fifteen years. And during this time they had a battery of health tests performed at regular intervals.

Using the data extracted from the health tests, it was determined that out of three separate categories within the study participants, 155 out of 1,000 suffered a stroke. The categories were divided as such:

• those who used a sauna once per week

• those who took a sauna two to three times weekly

• those who used saunas four to seven times per week

The participants in the last category fell into the group with fewer strokes. Although people in this group did have other health conditions that are thought to be more prevalent for heart disease and stroke. This included individuals who smoked cigarettes, had high cholesterol and/or diabetes.

More People Traveling for Medical Care

One of the most significant issues in the American economy is the cost of medical care. Few people can afford to get necessary medical treatments. However, there are ways to save money on the cost of various surgeries. One of the best ways to save money during this process is to go to another country for treatment. Various nations offer healthcare at a much lower cost than the United States.

Medical tourism is a term used to describe this phenomenon. More people than ever are relocating to other nations for medical treatment. As long as costs continue to increase, this will be a trend that continues.

Pros of Medical Tourism

The most prominent reason to consider medical tourism is the cost savings. Few people can afford to pay for extensive medical treatment. Saving half or more on the cost of surgery is common. Numerous nations offer healthcare of the same quality as the United States. Anyone who wants to save money should consider this method.

Avoiding Some Nations

Some nations around the world do not have the same requirements for their medical professionals. It is vital for people to conduct thorough research before having surgery in another country. Saving money is not worth getting a major infection in the body. There are numerous stories of people getting deathly sick in foreign countries because they did not take proper precautions.

Holistic Medicine

Another reason to consider getting health care treatment in another country is that other areas concentrate on holistic medicine. Holistic medicine focuses on ways for people to heal themselves without medicine or surgery. Living a healthy lifestyle is the cornerstone of holistic medicine. Many nations in Asia place a significant emphasis on holistic medicine.

In the years ahead, many economic experts believe that medical tourism will continue to be a viable option for most people. Anyone who needs medical care and needs financial assistance should consider this choice.

Can a Trip to the Sauna Reduce Your Likelihood of a Stroke?

With all of the stress, we suffer each day, strokes are a huge issue. As far as we know, there is little that can be done to prevent a stroke outside of not smoking and drinking conservatively. Healthy, active people have them, as do people who are overweight and eat McDonald’s every day. Fortunately, a recent study published by the American Academy of Neurology has found an odd activity that reduces the chances of a stroke by up to 62%.

Depending on how often one uses a sauna can apparently highly effect whether one will have a stroke in the future. Over a period of 15 years, over 1600 men and women were monitored. They kept track of other factors that can affect heart health, such as if the participants smoked or were overweight. Participants all used the Finnish style sauna and reported not only how often they used the sauna, but also how long they spent in the sauna each time. During the study, there were a total of 155 strokes.

The scientists then took this data, and adjusted for the variables as mentioned above, and found some very interesting information. The difference between someone who used the sauna once per week and someone who used the sauna two to three times in a week was a 12 percent decrease in likelihood to have a stroke for those who used the sauna more. Study participants who used the sauna four or more days each week had a 62 percent decrease in chance of a stroke. That is a significant difference!

Like any study, further research needs to be done to understand why this is and verify it works. Nonetheless, if you are interested in reducing your likelihood of a stroke a trip to the sauna may be in order.

Medicine for Stress

When it comes to day to day life, many Americans are very stressed out. They have jobs they need to attend to, kids they need to take care of, bills they have to pay, etc. To be frank, the list goes on and on for many individuals. However, despite all of these responsibilities, you have to take a step back and just breathe. Many people do the opposite, going to the doctor and getting put on a ton of antidepressants and medications they really don’t need. The good news is that there are other medicinal ways that you can treat the stress in your life. We are going to break down a few of these options in today’s article.

1. Meditation
Meditation has been studied for years and years and scientists have agreed that it can tremendously improve one’s life situation. In meditation, there are two types: non-directive and concentrative. Non-directive is when you breathe calmly but allow your mind to go where it wants to. Concentrative meditation is where people focus on either their breathe or something else in specific. All in all, experiment with both and see what works best for you. I’d recommend performing meditation in a calm, quiet environment in the morning or at night.

2. Gym
Going to the gym has shown to release a lot of physical energy, helping you both mentally and emotionally. You are building up your body rather than worrying about the stressors in your life. This constructive behavior is great for the body.

3. Social
This is perhaps the most important step of all. If you are hanging around negative people, you yourself will feel negative. As the saying goes, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. This can be no further from the truth. Examine your social circles and see who you should keep and who you should cut out. I know that sounds harsh but that is what needs to happen if you want to be emotionally stable.

Grape Seed Extract Shows Cancer-Killing Possibility In Study

Researchers at the University of Kentucky achieved remarkable results when they recently tested an extract taken from grape seeds on leukemia cells. With 24 hours of being exposed to the extract, more than 76% of the cancer cells died.

The study was published in Clinical Cancer Research, a journal published by the American Association of Cancer Research. The report says the grape seed extract prompted leukemia cells to “commit suicide.”

Products taken from grape seeds have long been of interest to researchers because grape seeds themselves have been favored by holistic and natural healers for years. The problem has always been a lack of formal scientific studies published in peer-reviewed journals. That’s what makes the University of Kentucky study so significant.

Does this mean that people battling leukemia should eat a lot of grape seed extract? The short answer is probably no – although doing so would cause no harm. But researchers say there is still a lot of work to be done to understand how this particular extract of grape seed works to kill cancer cells.

That’s according to Dr. Xianglin Shi who was the lead researcher on the study. Dr. Shi is a professor at the University of Kentucky’s Graduate Centre for Toxicology. He called the results of the recent study highly promising, however.

Leukemia is the fourth deadliest form of cancer. It causes the deaths of about 54,000 people per year. In general, Dr. Shi points out that eating a lot of fruits and vegetables almost certainly prevents cancer before it can start.

Part of the reason for this is the now well-understood action of anti-oxidants present in just about all forms of fruits and vegetables. Delving deeper into the biochemistry of these antioxidants – and looking at specific extracts – is enabling medical researchers to pinpoint agents that can have specific cancer-killing properties.

Dr. Shi and his team have been paying close attention to substances called proanthocyanidins, a type of flavonoid found in fruits.

Agora Financial Investing More

Let’s be honest here. Everyone wants to retire comfortably and have enough money to live on without having to work. However, with pensions going away and investing seeming complicated, many people don’t know where to start. I’d personally recommend getting involved with Agora Financial. There, you’ll discover well-trained professionals at investing. These people will make sure your money grows over time. When it comes to investing, there are a few things everyone must go over. We are going to be breaking down these things in today’s article and more

  1. Setting investing goals

If you want to retire comfortably with enough cash, you are going to have to set targets and work towards those targets on a monthly basis. You have to find out how much money you are going to invest each month, what you are going to invest it in, and how you are going to invest that money. Are you going to invest by yourself or through a financial advisor? Are you going to invest in single stocks, IRAs, or mutual funds? These are all questions you must ask yourself for long-term success.

  1. Short-term investing goals

Generally speaking, a lot of short-term investments yield higher returns than long-term investments. This means that they typically have higher risk involved. This is why you must fully understand these short-term investments. You can invest in your own small business, you can swing trade, or you can start a side hustle. Whatever it is, make sure you reinvest the profits you earn into long-term assets like mutual funds or real estate. I would stay away from volatile cryptocurrencies as it is a fairly new market and they tend to be extremely risky if you don’t understand them

  1. Long-term investing

If you don’t want to get involved with short-term investing, that’s okay. In fact, it’s preferred by many people. Two financial vehicles that I’d recommend everyone look in to would be a Roth IRA and a 401k. With a Roth IRA, your money is able to grow tax-free and compound over time. With a 401k, your employer will typically match your contributions. All in all, investing doesn’t have to be so complicated.

Things that decrease stress.

A lot of Americans have chronic stress in their lives and don’t really know how to deal with it. This can come from kids, a job, financial issues, relationship issues, and a whole lot of other things really. No matter the cause, distress in one’s life still needs to be treated. The only problem is that people often go see a doctor, getting prescribed antidepressants and other medications that they really don’t need. In this article, I’m going to give you three easy steps that you can use to help treat your stress.

1. Meditation
Meditation has been used for centuries and centuries, proving that this method of medicine works. There are two types of meditation that one can perform: non-directive meditation and concentrative meditation. In non-directive meditation, people often let their mind wander and do its thing. In concentrative meditation, people tend to focus either on their breath or a specific thing. If you choose to go with this method, perform it in a quiet, calm place that is comfortable for you. This will allow you to relax, making the experience more effective. I like to perform meditation either very early in the morning or late at night.

2. The Gym
Consistently working out has been shown to have many mental and emotional benefits aside from its physical benefits. Instead of using your mental energy for focusing on a stressor, you are focusing that energy on building up your body. It also tends to clear your mind, allowing you to take a step back and examine things objectively.

3. Social Circle
This is probably the most important step of all. If you hang around horrible people that don’t support you, you won’t be happy. I urge you to take a step back and really examine who you are hanging around with whether that be family or friends. As the saying goes, you are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.

How To Deal With Stress

A lot of Americans in this day and age deal with chronic stress. In fact, this stress shows up in their day to day life. Whether it’s from a job, kids, or financial issues, it can be very detrimental to your personal health, both physically, mentally, and emotionally. The good news is that there are other methods that deal with this stress rather than useless antidepressants and other medications that only treat the symptom, not the cause. In this article, I’m going to be breaking down some of these methods and why they are so beneficial.

1. Meditation
Meditation has been used for centuries and centuries, standing the test of time. In fact, it’s one of the best methods out there that you can use to become stress-free. There are two kinds of meditation: non-directive and concentrative. Non-directive meditation is when you let your mind wander, letting it do its own thing. Concentrative meditation is when you try to focus on either your breathe or a specific thing. I’d suggest trying both methods to see which one works best for you. Also, try meditating in a calm, quiet environment either early in the morning or late at night.

2. The Gym
Ah, the gym! One of the greatest places to let all of your frustrations and energy out. The gym is a great place to let go of the negative things in your life and build yourself up. If you start going to the gym regularly, you’ll start to feel more confident about yourself which will transition into a better life overall.

3. Your Social Life
The people you hang around matter a lot. If all you do is hang around negative people, whether that be friends or family, it will drain your energy and leave you feeling stressed out. If you are feeling anxious, step back and examine who you are hanging around the most. They say that we are the average of the five people we spend the most time with. All in all, spend time with good people.
