Popularization of Flotation Therapy

A new type of therapy is used in the holistic health circles. It is called flotation therapy, and as the name implies it is simply floating on water. The therapy is performed in a flotation pod that isolates the individual in a bathtub with no sensory impact.

The individual in the therapy is placed in an enclosed pod filled with water that has high doses of Epsom Salt dissolved inside. The salt in the water increases the buoyancy to the body, so it effortlessly floats on top of the water and does not sink. The magnesium in the Epsom salts relaxes all the muscles in the body and provides the body with enough of this essential mineral.

The water solution is maintained at body temperature so that the impact of the water is not felt. It feels as if one is floating in a vacuum. There is no sound, lights, and smell entering the space in the pod. It is the closest sensation to being in the womb that can be achieved.

Floatation therapy is not something new. It has been around for decades and in some countries like Sweden, it is a medical treatment that is covered by health insurance. In other western countries, however, it is considered something more of a placebo than an actual therapy. This does not stop Nasa from using it for astronauts. Athletes also use the therapy to recover from sporting events. Floating has also been used as a therapy for soldiers with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The lack of sensations in the tank allows the brain to work at different frequencies and release stress and anxiety. It resets itself to perform better and produce more dopamine and endorphins. Patients report less stress, better pain management, improved blood circulation, greater focus, positivity, management of habitual disorders, and improved psychological state.

The therapy is great for people suffering from insomnia, chronic pain, injuries, or are recovering from work overload. The therapy is effective when repeated, and it is slowly turning into a popular health application.
